Jan 7, (THAINDIAN NEWS) In a move that will surely be hailed by the environmental groups a banned energy drink is being converted into car fuel in USA. In last year the FDA issued a notice and imposed a ban on Four Loko a popular energy drink as it found its ingredients harmful. A company based in Virginia is now busy converting Four Loko and other alcohol laden drinks to ethanol. The mix of caffeine and alcohol in Four Loko was mainly responsible for the ban on its sale. The manufacturers of Four Loko and similar drinks were warned by FDA and they agreed to alter the composition in their beverages in future. However, a question that haunted many at that time was what would be done with the existing lot of drinks. The conversion to ethanol seems to be a viable choice.
The wholesalers in Maryland, North Carolina, Virginia have started sending their lot of drinks to Virginia’s MXI Environmental Services. It is among the three ethanol recycling facilities in the USA. The nice thing is that the other parts and components of the drinker have also been sent for recycling including the cans. The MXI plant Vice president Brian Potter admitted the development saying that there would be a huge shipment of such drinks which will keep the facility workers busy for some months. He also added apart from Four Loko many other products will be coming to the plant for recycling.
Four Loko is also going to offer new flavors to the buyers but there will be no caffeine and stimulant in the revised formulation for those drinks.
