Elephant tusk pieces seized, three arrested

Panaji, Sep 15 (IANS) Three elephant tusk pieces worth more than Rs.1 million were seized in a Goa village Saturday and three people arrested, police said.

Police Inspector Nolasco Raposo said Vinay Naik was arrested in Saligao village, 10 km from here, for possession of three pieces of tusks weighing 7 kg and worth Rs.10.50 lakh in the international market.

“Two other people who delivered the pieces to him were also arrested. We are investigating how they got the tusk pieces,” he said.

All the accused have been remanded to police custody till Sep 17.
