Dora weakens to Category 1 Hurricane
July 22nd, 2011 - 8:31 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattPacific Ocean, July 22 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Hurricane Dora is now a Category 1 storm but the inhabitants of the towns on its path are still on the alert for its impact. The storm is currently in the Pacific off the coast of Mexico. The coasts of Baja California and Los Cabos have been on the alert since the storm was named.
On Friday, the Hurricane Center in Miami announced that the storm had degraded to 90 mph. On Friday morning, the center announced that the storm was 255 miles off the coast of Cabo Corrientes. The authorities at the port in a precaution have suspended all boat activities near the stone Arch which over the years attract several tourists.
The authorities are also making preparation for temporary shelters in the event of a flood. Officials at the weather center expects the storm to continue weakening with the hour on Friday.
Dora is part of the group of named storms which threatened countries along the coast of the Pacific Ocean. Tropical Storm Cindy is currently heading further back into the Pacific posing no threat at all to the coastal towns. Another storm, Bret, has downgraded to tropical depression and it was moving away from the coast of Bahamas on Friday.
