Delhi’s BSES launches save power campaign
May 24th, 2011 - 6:54 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, May 24 (IANS) Power distribution company BSES Tuesday launched the “My Cool Idea” campaign in the capital city inviting its customers to share ideas and suggestions to reduce power consumption and encourage energy conservation.
According to officials, the suggestions would be uploaded on the BSES website. A special icon has been put up on the site, which has been visited by around 45 lakh people.
“The unprecedented heat wave is setting new records every other day and so is the power demand. Like last week the temperature touched 44 degrees Celsius and the power demand rose to a record 4,823 MW,” said BSES in a statement.
As part of the programme, the company is sharing energy conservation tips with Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) and will also engage with schools in the BSES area so that children can also support the campaign.
“This will help conserve electricity and also save money,” a BSES official said.
According to the company, some simple tips like fixing a solar film on windows and painting the roofs white can save significant amount of energy.
“These measures can reduce the air conditioning costs by almost 20 percent. The air conditioner’s thermostat should be kept at 25 degrees to provide comfort at the minimum cost,” added the official.
The company further advised that electronic appliances kept in standby mode lead to Delhi losing about 25 percent of its annual production of electricity.
