Days are getting warmer, nights more pleasant

New Delhi, Feb 18 (IANS) As the sun shone brightly On Delhi and most parts of the northern plains Monday, people came out of their woollen cocoons after a particularly long and bitter winter. The maximum temperature in the national capital rose to near 26 degrees Celsius, as was the case in most places in the plains. A bright sky added to the feeling of warmth to the day.

The minimum temperature in Delhi was 9.8 degrees, normal for this time of the year.

The capital has been reeling under a severe cold wave for over a month with the season’s lowest recorded at 1.9 degrees Celsius Jan 2, while the lowest temperature this month was 2.9 degrees Feb 2.

The Met office has forecast further rise in the minimum temperatures, signalling an official end to the winter.

The lowest temperature in the plains was 4.9 degrees Celsius recorded at Amritsar in Punjab.

The met office has forecast mainly dry weather in most of the country expect for rain in parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, West Bengal and Bihar.
