Cyclone ‘Phyan’ threatens Mumbai

Mumbai, Nov 11 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Mumbai is in the grip of the rains yet again. A cyclone is expected to pay a visit to the coastal city today. All schools and offices have been asked to close early and all people have been asked to go home early.
“All schools and offices have been advised to close down for the day in view of the inclement weather that is likely to worsen,” BMC Additional Commissioner A Maheshkar told reporters.
People have been advised to stay home post 5 pm. People are leaving their offices early today in view of the developing cyclone. Heavy rains lash Gujarat, Konkan, Goa and other neighboring areas. According to the Weather department, the Cyclone is expected to cross Valsad around 11pm-12 am.
Fishermen have been advised not to venture out into the sea. 8 people have been rescued off the Ratnagiri coast. Some 600 fishermen are still in the sea, government is doing its best to rescue them.
According to latest reports, cyclone is heading towards Gujarat and has skipped Mumbai. Heavy rains are expected in Mumbai and Daman. 16 additional local trains have been added on the Western and Central lines to tackle the home going rush. Maharashtra CM says that all emergency services have been activated.
Met department says that it doesn’t expect the cyclone to intensify further, instead it just expects heavy rainfall in Mumbai and Daman.
