Crocodile attack leaves boy dead in Gujarat

Junagadh (Gujarat), May 12 (IANS) A teenaged boy was found dead Monday, a day after he was attacked by a crocodile near this Gujarat town. A crocodile seized a 16-year-old boy Sunday on the banks of Maduvanti dam of Mendarda taluka in Junagadh, 45 km from here, even as his parents watched in horror, according to the police. The child’s body was found Monday morning.
Dhaval Dhirubhai Savaliya, 16, Sunday came from Jamnagar with his parents on a picnic at the Madhuvanti dam of Mendarda sub-district, 45 km from here.
While playing with his friends in the evening, Dhaval jumped into the river to retrive a ball. As he went farther, he was chased and attacked by a crocodile who clutched him in its jaws.
His horrified parents tried to save him and alerted authorities but the current of the water carried him farther away. Fire brigade personnel from Junagadh and Rajkot were called for rescue. However, they could nmot help in saving him.
His body was recovered Monday morning with deep gashes on his arms and stomach, the police said.
