Coral atlas of Gujarat released
May 1st, 2011 - 3:45 am ICT by IANSGandhinagar, April 30, (IANS) A comprehensive coral atlas of Gujarat was released here Saturday by state Forest Minister Mangubhai Patel.
The second publication brought out by the Gujarat Ecology Commission (GEC), the report will serve as an important baseline in the preparation of the upcoming Integrated Coastal Zone Management Plan for Gujarat.
“It is also a contribution to the state’s earnest efforts towards sustainable development,” said S.K. Nanda, principal secretary, environment and forests.
The minister who also launched a dedicated website on Integrated Coastal Zone Management Project (ICZM) said the state was leading the way in environment conservation.
“Now this second study report along with the first one will enable the state to ensure management of the coastal zone in a way so that it can protect the system of nature despite the rising development activities on the seashore,” he added.
