Cooking oil spill leaves Rhode Island smelling like fries

Rhode Island, April 13 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Several streets in Rhode Island’s city of Cranston have been left in a mess after about 30 gallons of used soya bean oil spilled in the city. Firefighters moved to the streets to try and clean the mess up.

The firefighters were led by Cranston Deputy Fire Chief Keith Newman. Newman later told reporters that he smelled like French fries after he visited the scenes. During an interview with WJAR-TV, Newman explained that the cooking oil was kept in 5-gallon containers. He said so far the authorities have found containers in four locations in the city.

It is believed that the incident happened on Monday but the driver failed to stop or report the incident. This has got the authorities hunting for the driver. Environmental officials are cleaning the spillage that has been left behind.

Officials do not as yet know why the driver decided to drive on after the incident but the say it might have been an accident. Firefighters say the recovered containers might have fell from the truck. Witnesses say on one stretch of a street, the oil messed an entire block.
