Cold wave grips Orissa; Phulbani town records coldest day
January 19th, 2010 - 3:51 pm ICT by IANSBhubaneswar, Jan 19 (IANS) Cold wave continued to sweep parts of Orissa Tuesday as Phulbani town in Kandhamal district was the coldest with a minimum temperature of eight degrees Celsius, an official said.
“The minimum temperature in Phulbani town was eight degrees Celsius today (Tuesday). This is the coldest day for the town,” an official of Bhubaneswar meteorological centre told IANS.
Phulbani had Monday recorded a minimum temperature of 9.5 degree Celsius.
The mercury dipped at various places including Bhabanipatna which recorded a minimum temperature of 8.5 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature at Sundergarh was 8.9 degrees.
However, Bhubaneswar, its adjoining Cuttack city and coastal town of Puri remained warmer recording 16.8, 15.8 and 17.6 degrees Celsius, respectively.
The official said the cold wave is likely to continue for the next two days.
