Cold wave continues unabated in northern plains
December 27th, 2011 - 5:58 pm ICT by IANSChandigarh, Dec 27 (IANS) Cold wave conditions continued unabated in the plains of northern India, with cities and towns in Punjab and Haryana recording low temperatures Tuesday morning.
In Punjab, the industrial city of Ludhiana recorded a low of 0.8 degrees Celsius, six degrees below average. Patiala was at three degrees, four degrees below average.
Amritsar recorded a minimum temperature of minus 1.6 degrees Celsius, five degrees below average.
In Haryana, Hisar town reeled at 0.7 degrees Tuesday morning, five degrees below average.
Elsewhere in the state, Narnaul was at 1.5 degrees while Karnal and Rohtak recorded a minimum of 2.4 degrees each. The temperatures were 4-5 degrees below average.
Chandigarh was warmer Tuesday with a low of 5.2 degrees.
In comparison to cities in the plains, the hill station of Shimla in Himachal Pradesh was much warmer with a minimum temperature of 3.6 degrees.
Met officials said that the cold wave will persist for the next 3-4 days over the region.
