Cold nights, warmer days in Punjab, Haryana
January 27th, 2011 - 2:10 pm ICT by IANSChandigarh, Jan 27 (IANS) In spite of a slight rise in the mercury during the day time, cold conditions continue to prevail during night and early morning in Punjab, Haryana and its joint capital Chandigarh.”We have recorded a slight rise in the mercury during day time in all parts of Punjab and Haryana. However, there has been no respite from cold during the night and in the wee hours,” a Met official here said Thursday.
“Cold winds are sweeping across the region during early hours. We are expecting similar conditions to prevail for the next 48 hours,” he added.
The maximum temperature has been hovering between 15 degrees and 22 degrees Celsius across the region as against 3-13 degrees recorded earlier this month.
On the other hand, the minimum temperature has currently been ranging between minus 1 and 7 degrees Celsius as against 4-10 degrees earlier.
Punjab’s Amritsar city was coldest in the region Thursday morning with a low of 4 degrees Celsius while Ludhiana and Patiala settled at minimum temperatures of 5.4 and 6 degrees Celsius, respectively.
Chandigarh recorded a minimum temperature of 7.2 degrees Celsius.
In Haryana, Ambala, Hisar and Karnal towns recorded minimum temperatures of 7.8, 4.5 and 5 degrees Celsius, respectively.
