New Delhi, Feb 15 (IANS) The weather gods played hide and seek with Delhi and the northern plains Friday too with days being sunny and warm and the nights a shivering cold. The residents of the national capital saw the daytime temperature touching nearly 24 degrees Celsius with a sunny and clear sky. But the nightitme temperature remained pegged around five degrees Celsius.

It was the same story across the northern plains with most of the cities having warm days and cold nights. Chandigarh had the maximum and minimum temperatures of 23 degrees and five degrees respectively and Lucknow too registered identical temperatures.

The lowest minimum temperature in the plains was two degrees Celsius recorded at Sirsawa in Uttar Pradesh.

However, the Met Office forecast that with the setting in of the northwesterly winds in the plains, the minimum temperatures may slip again from Feb 18 across the northern plains.

Meanwhile, the northern chill seems to have spread to eastern and central parts of the country. The Met Office forecast the cold spell in the region to continue for the next couple of days till Sunday.

The following are the maximum and minimum temperatures and rainfall in major cities for the 24 hours till Friday morning, with figures in brackets denoting deviations from the average.
