clemsonlogoNov 28, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The game between Clemson University and South Carolina was hogging all the attention on Saturday and as expected the teams were highly charged up. However, this game was quite different compared to any other previous games. The game was the first in the history of the university to get green power, a part of Clemson University’s move to make the campus more sustainable for the environment and future. The university joined hands with two power companies, namely Santee Cooper and Blue Ridge Electric Cooperative. These entities generate green and renewable energy in south Carolina by means of solar stations and landfill biogas.

The Carolina University officials said that the move taken by the university should serve as an example for the other U.S. universities to follow in the near future. The university administration is of the opinion that increased sustainability efforts and environment friendly measures will go a long way in improving the environment. The university has a number of plans to be implemented for this purpose. They include using reusable cafeteria containers, sustainable housing units and overall enhanced recycling of products.

Santee Cooper which now has a collaboration with Clemson University is the biggest power supplier in South Carolina. It makes renewable energy in various power generation plants across the state. The planning and design director of the university, Gerald Vander Mey is hopeful that people will be inspired to use more green energy inspired by the example set by the university. Since biogas is produced by biological breakdown of organic waste, there is almost no chance of environmental pollution which is a case with fossil fuel based energy generation.
