Chandigarh, June 3 (IANS) Chandigarh weather has been pleasant over the last few days and Met officials expect rains to break all records of the month of June.

Chandigarh received 23.6 millimeter (mm) rainfall June 1 and 2, the maximum recorded rainfall in the first week of June in the last couple of years. In 2010, Chandigarh had 11.4 mm rainfall in the first week of June whereas it was only 1.2 mm in 2009.

“This year we have very good rainfall in the last week of May and in the beginning of June. We are expecting this trend to continue for some more days and it is quite possible that this year we could have maximum rainfall of June month as compared to last many decades,” said a Met official here Friday.

“This rainfall is due to the western disturbances that are approaching towards this region. This rainfall has lowered both the minimum and maximum temperatures of this region. Actual monsoon is expected between June 15 to 17,” he added.

Chandigarh recorded a maximum temperature of 33.1 degrees Celsius Thursday, which was six notches below what is normal for this time of the season whereas minimum temperature of 18.9 degrees was five degrees below average.

It is the lowest minimum temperature for June recorded in Chandigarh in the last six years.
