Champagne Producers Aim For Diminishing Pollution

01champagne-cnd-articlelargeSep 1, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The famous Champagne industry of France is all set to reduce the carbon dioxide pollution that tales place during the making and transportation of the drink. The industry is making the bottles lighter so that more bottles can be packed into a cargo during transportation. It will reportedly cut down the 200000 tons of CO2 emitted during the transportation of the bottles all over the world. The shipping and producing causes the majority of CO2 emissions for Champagne. However, the French champagne producers are keeping the thing inside the industry and they do not want the whole world to know about the new initiative.

The bottles of champagne are kept thicker traditionally but the latest measures cut down the weight of a bottle by 65 grams. The move is also prompted by the initiatives taken by the winegrowers and their green practices have inspired the French drink producers. It will take some time before the new lighter bottles hit the market since the bottles will be kept aside for fermentation for nearly three hours. The group behind the initiative says that the endeavor will cut carbon emission by almost 8,000 metric tons per year. This can be compared to 4000 small vehicles going off the road.

The environmental groups have welcomed the move as one can easily understand. Some of the prestigious champagne brands like Heidsieck & Company Monopole, Vranken-Pommery Monopole have started using the lighter bottles. The slimmer bottles will result in less number of vehicles required to transport them to wine plants and shops. The wine industry has also adopted pesticide free farming.
