SACRAMENTO (BNO NEWS) –California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger on Friday declared a state of emergency in San Bernardino County due to a series of winter storms that have hit the west coast.

The winter storms have caused roads to close, widespread utility outages, damage to over 120 homes, and required people to relocate to emergency shelters.

Thursday, Acting Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. declared a state of emergency in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Francisco, and Siskiyou counties because of the storms’ impact on the day-to-day functions of the hit areas. The storms have brought high winds and significant amounts of precipitation statewide, and have caused the loss of human life, injuries, flooding, heavy snows, and mudslides throughout the state.

The effects of the storms are expected to continue over the next several days.
