Bright sunshine greets Chandigarh
January 24th, 2010 - 1:36 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )Chandigarh, Jan 24 (IANS) The residents of Chandigarh got much-needed relief from the dense fog and biting cold Sunday after they were greeted by bright sunshine. Punjab and Haryana, however, continued to reel under severe cold conditions.
“Chandigarh and its surrounding areas have got a comparative respite from chilling weather and thick fog. However, many parts of Punjab and Haryana are still reeling under foggy weather, reducing the visibility level on roads,” a met official said here.
“We are expecting isolated spells of rain in most parts of this region in the coming days. These showers would cause a good dip in the night temperatures.”
Punjab’s holy city of Amritsar was the coldest city in the region with a minimum temperature of 0.2 degrees Celsius, four degrees below average. Ludhiana and Patiala registered lows of 5.4 and 6.3 degrees Celsius, respectively — one degree below normal.
Chandigarh, joint capital of Punjab and Haryana, recorded a minimum temperature of 5 degrees Celsius, one degree below average.
In Haryana, Ambala city recorded a minimum temperature of 3.6 degrees Celsius, three degrees below average. Karnal registered a low of 4.4 degrees Celsius which was three degrees below normal. Hisar recorded a minimum of 8.2 degrees.
