Giant oil plume Gulf of Mexico, May 28 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Researchers using the University of South Florida College of Marine Science’s Weatherbird II vessel has discovered a huge new plume in the Gulf of Mexico. It is the second significant undersea plume since the oilrig accident on April 20, in the Gulf of Mexico.

Scientists say the thick plume, which is about 6 miles wide, was found just beneath the surface of the Gulf at 3,300 feet. However scientists are worried that the chemical dispersant may have formed the plume used by BP, to break the oil.

The BP oil disaster grows from bad to worse daily. The company is struggling to contain the oil leak, but the US government has grown increasingly impatient with BP and has threatened to set the oil giant aside in the cleanup.

The oil leak is threatening to be the biggest environmental disaster in the history of the United States. However some believe the exact extent of the disaster is not yet known totally. Tourism and businesses in the Gulf Coast have virtually collapsed and most of the inhabitants have sued BP for damages. BP has recently used the ‘top kill’ procedure to plug the leak, and it remains to be seen whether the process is a success or not.
