oil6 Gulf of Mexico, May 18 (THAINDIAN NEWS) BP has announced that it would permanently cap the leaking well. This particular well, which is responsible for the gushing oil into the Gulf, will never again be used to produce oil, according to the company. BP has tried unsuccessfully to stop the leak that has been spewing oil into the Gulf, for almost a month. They recently achieved minimal success when they were able to suck only a fraction of the leaking oil with a small tube.

The company however said they might drill another well elsewhere in the Gulf. The April 20 accident, which killed eleven rig workers, has seen BP try several methods to stop the leak from the ruptured undersea pipes, which carry the crude oil. The company however just recently used robots to position a 6-inch tube into the ruptured pipe to siphon some of the leaking oil. This has been a success, but the fact that the tube is 6 inches and the rupture is much bigger than that means there is still some crude oil that is still leaking into the sea.

Environmentalists have shown great concern about the impact that this leak would have on the environment.
