New York, Apr 8 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The negative effect of the last BP Dolphin oil spill is beginning to show up. There are reports that out of over 400 dolphins that had been washed ashore in the last one year and two months, about 15 of them had oil on them. Scientists are insisting that in the 15 dolphins with oil on them, over half of them are as a result of the April 2010 BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

According to Southeast Marine Mammal Stranding Coordinator for NOAA fisheries - Blair Mase, there is still evidence to show that the oil spill of last year is affecting the dolphins.

This point is reiterated by Barbara Schroeder of the NOAA Fisheries Sea Turtle, when she said that over 85 turtles had been found dead since mid March last year. Even though she admitted that there is no strong evidence on the carcasses to show that they died because of the BP oil spill but she maintained that the possibility is high.

In Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, and Mississippi, they was a declaration of “unusual mortality events” by NOAA in February due to a sudden upsurge of dead dolphins that were being washed ashore.
