New Delhi, Sep 27 (IANS) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Tuesday demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the alleged illegal iron ore mining in Goa and sought the removal of Chief Minister Digambar Kamat of the Congress.
“We demand a CBI inquiry into the illegal mining in Goa. The government should remove Chief Minister Digambar Kamat,” said BJP spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman.
Claiming that “dirty money from illegal mining in Goa was funding the Congress”, she said “the allegations have made Goa an ugly tourist destination”.
Pegging the loss of revenue due to illegal mining in Goa at around Rs.10,000 crore, the BJP said as many as 90 mining licences have been issued by the state government.
“While in some cases environmental clearances have not been obtained, many licencees are extracting more (ore) than their permit,” said Sitharaman.
She said the issue had been raised by the Public Accounts Committee of the Goa assembly and the Indian Bureau of Mines.
