Bear hide seized from Himachal hotel, one arrested
January 15th, 2012 - 11:13 pm ICT by IANSManali (Himachal Pradesh), Jan 15 (IANS) A hotel in this Himachal Pradesh tourist spot was raided Sunday and the hide of a fully grown black bear seized, police said Sunday.
The hide was seized from Preet Hotel and its manager Trilok Chand arrested after a tip-off from animal rights group People for Animals (PFA), Superintendent of Police Abhishek Dullar told reporters.
He said the manager was arrested after three PFA members approached him as decoy customers and struck a deal.
Police said initially the manager was demanding Rs.150,000 for the hide, but the PFA members persuaded him to sell it for Rs.100,000.
Dullar said the accused was booked under various sections of the Indian Wildlife Act.
