apr2807-quakeJan 8 , (THAINDIAN NEWS) An Earthquake struck bay area yesterday which was not felt by many people. The quake hitting San Francisco’s bay region had a severity of 4.1 as per the Richter scale. Its center was in Milpitas. The news of the Earthquake can be found in several websites. However, very few people could actually feel it and many of the residents came to know about it from the sites. Generally people can feel an Earthquake when its severity exceeds the scale of 5 in Richter scale and the shaking becomes palpable. No casualty has been reported after the quake hit the region. The administration has not reported any serious damage to properties either.

The Bay area is situated in a seismically active zone. Therefore, mild tremors hit the area quite frequently and the majority of these tremors go unnoticed. Most of these minor quakes measure between 2 to 4 in the Richter scale. In fact when the earthquake struck the region most of the residents were sleeping. The report of the quake has been confirmed by U.S. Geological Survey too. It hit the region around 10 a.m in the morning.

The Seismologists have ruled out any major side effect that may happen after the quake. However, they could sense a series of aftershocks. These are natural after any quake they said. Had the Earthquake been more severe there could be injuries and casualties. The seismologists are likely to watch the region for subsequent quakes. Sometimes bigger quakes are preceded by smaller quakes that appear mild. It has definitely put Milpitas in focus for now.
