Bank of America to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions

New York, May 18 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The Bank of America has announced that they will go ahead with their 2010 plan which will see the company’s greenhouse gas emissions reduced by about 15 percent. The move is seen as an ambitious one on the part of the biggest asset owning bank in the United States.

The bank has branches in about 40 countries throughout the world. The bank managed to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions by 18 percent between 2004 and 2009 under a similar plan. The next plan was to further reduce the greenhouse emissions by 15 percent by the end of the year 2015.

In the plan, Bank of America plans to cut their dependence on greenhouse gases by introducing series of innovative moves. On the top of the list is the improvement in the company’s energy management systems. The bank also plans to increase the efficiency of its servers and computers including laptops to ensure reduction of energy wastage. The bank says they will educate its employees on efficient energy use.

The chairman of Bank of America Environmental Council, Catherine P. Bessant, said that, “Reducing our emissions not only lessens the environmental impact of our global operations, but enhances our efficiency and delivers tremendous value for our company and shareholders.”
