Atlanta, Sep 21 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Atlanta is under a flood watch until Monday evening, weather forecasters said on Sunday. The deadly flood has already claimed at least 2 lives when these people tried to drive through flooded streets in their cars. Also two people are reported to be missing.

Meteorologist Jessica Fieux of the National Weather Service said, “The rainfall is expected to lessen by Wednesday when the chance of rain drops to 30 percent. It’s currently at 90 percent for Sunday”, she said.

Meanwhile Red Cross has come to the aid of the victims, helping them out of their flooded abodes and providing them with hotel accommodation for the night. Old time residents of the area like Lawrence Washington, who has owned a house in the 2200 block of Macon Drive for 16 years, said he had “never seen anything like this”

The flooded South River also pumped its floods into Atlanta’s water treatment plant on Browns Mill road and workers had to bring in pumps to get it out. Spokeswoman Janet Ward said the plant was not shut down, till now at least.

Nearby, at Allstate Waste Inc. on Jonesboro Road, the sanitation company’s heavy machinery, including backhoes, was totally under water, causing enormous damage to the company. And the parking lot at Lakewood Amphitheater was completely underwater with many cars still trapped.
