Another rainy day in Delhi
August 20th, 2010 - 11:19 am ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Aug 20 (IANS) It was a wet Friday morning in the national capital as rains continued for the second consecutive day and the weatherman predicted more showers as the day progressed.
“The skies will remain cloudy and some parts of the city are expected to get one or two spells of rainfall or thundershowers…Some may be heavy,” said an official of the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
According to the met department, the city has received 110 mm of rainfall from Thursday morning till 8.30 a.m. Friday.
Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 26 degrees Celsius, normal for this time of the season, while the maximum is expected to hover around 29 degrees, the official said.
The humidity levels were on the higher side with the maximum recorded at 98 percent and the minimum at 92 percent.
The continuous rainfall had disrupted normal life for commuters Thursday with flooding in low-lying areas causing traffic snarls in many areas.
According to Delhi Traffic Police, serpentine traffic jams were reported from ITO, Ring Road, Dwarka, the DND flyover connecting Noida, Saket, Raj Ghat, Pusa Road, Rohtak Road and Ashram Chowk.
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) received 106 complaints of waterlogging, 23 of trees falling and 11 incidents of wall collapse during the day.
Thursday was the wettest day of the season for Delhi, recording 110 mm rainfall. The city has received a total 575 mm of rainfall this monsoon.
