Amritsar reels at 0.6, Hisar at 0 degrees Celsius

Chandigarh, Dec 25 (IANS) With cold wave conditions persisting over northern India, Amritsar city in Punjab recorded its lowest temperature of the season at minus 0.6 degrees Celsius while Hisar town in Haryana recorded a low of zero degrees Sunday morning.

Met centre officials here said that the minimum temperature in Amritsar was five degrees below average. Ludhiana and Patiala in Punjab recorded a low of 2.9 degrees each.

In neighbouring Haryana, Hisar recorded a minimum temperature of zero degrees while Narnaul was at 0.5 degrees. Rohtak town, which recorded a low of minus 0.8 Saturday, was warmer Sunday morning with a minimum temperature of four degrees.

Chandigarh recorded a low of 2.8 degrees Sunday morning and a high of 18.4 degrees Saturday.

Met officials said that the temperatures over the region could fall further. They also said that ground frost could occur at few places in Punjab and Haryana.
