Amritsar feels the chill at 2.4 degrees
December 20th, 2010 - 12:50 pm ICT by IANSChandigarh, Dec 20 (IANS) A cold wave continued to sweep most parts of Punjab and Haryana with Amritsar being the coldest in the region at a minimum temperature of 2.4 degrees Celsius Monday.The minimum in Amritsar was two degrees below normal, a Met official said here.
The mercury was below the average in many cities and towns and the weather office forecast light showers in parts of the region. Patiala recorded a minimum temperature of 7 degrees Celsius while Ludhiana was 6.8 degrees Monday morning.
“A cold wave is prevalent in most parts of Punjab and Haryana in the mornings and during late evenings. We have recorded a dip in the mercury by one to three degrees at various places. We are also expecting light rain or drizzle in some parts of Punjab in the next couple of days,” the official said.
Chandigarh, which is the joint capital of Punjab and Haryana, recorded a minimum temperature of 7.1 degrees Celsius Monday.
In Haryana, Hisar registered a minimum temperature of 5 degrees Celsius, two notches below the normal for this time of the season.
Ambala recorded 6.3 degrees Celsius while Karnal was 5.8 degrees - both a degree below the average.
