Redoubt Volcano Anchorage, Jan 2 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The Alaskan volcano Mount Redoubt is still rumbling, as it had been doing throughout the previous year. This had led many citizens to guess when the big eventual ‘blow’ will come. The Mount has been increasing its volcanic activity and this had led to a flurry of activity for the scientists. They want to ensure that their monitoring networks are upgraded and ready to provide data.

Geological experts said that they expected the activity to continue for weeks or months back in March of this year, when it reportedly rumbled back to life after a long period of being completely in the dormant state. The last time the volcano was active was in 1989, when the furious volcanic eruptions lasted 5 months.

The alert level advisory for aviation was henceforth raised to yellow, in order to insure pilots didn’t get caught up in any ash that might spew upwards. Scientists had spotted that there were a series of earthquakes on the mountain, but recently with the increased volcanic activity they had become more powerful, but less frequent.

Mount Redoubt is 10,197 feet tall, and the biggest fear observers have at this point is that a lava dome that formed in the middle of the volcano will erupt. Tom Murray, chief scientist at the Alaska Volcano Observatory has stated that they are continuously monitoring the volcano and whether it can be considered to be safe still remains unsure.
