Agra, Dec 6 (IANS) Hundreds of school children cycled through streets of this Taj city Sunday morning to spread environmental consciousness and demand drastic reduction in carbon emission to make the city clean.
“The city of three world heritage monuments can not be allowed to remain dirty, choked and traffic jammed perpetually,” Shishir Bhagat, programme convener of Wake Up Agra, told IANS.

Medical activist and gynaecologist Shivani Chaturvedi said: “Children must learn to reduce and recycle waste. Parents should promote cycling habit among children.”

The young cyclists took a round of the city’s life line M.G. Road before they were addressed by Father John Farreira, an educationist and yoga promoter.

Farreira said the city’s profile must change. “Everywhere you see heaps of dirt and garbage. The poor level of cleanliness is not only a health hazard but also an assault on aesthetics. People should wake up and clean up the city and make roads safe for cycling,” Farreira said.
