Adani Group seeks removal of Supreme Court bar on Mundra SEZJuly 2nd, 2008 - 7:25 pm ICT by IANS
Ahmedabad, July 2 (IANS) The Mundra Port and Special Economic Zone Ltd, promoted by the city-based Adani Group, will seek from the Supreme Court vacation of its bar against construction at the proposed SEZ, the group said Wednesday. In a regulatory communication to the Bombay Stock Exchange, the group said: “We understand from media reports that an ex-parte stay has been granted by the Supreme Court against carrying out construction activities in the SEZ at Mundra. We are awaiting the papers.”
It said it had complied with various procedures and formalities for setting up the SEZ at Mundra and will submit the details to the Supreme Court with a request to vacate the ex-parte stay.
“The port at Mundra is operating normally,” the company added, referring to the port it has developed earlier.
The apex court, acting on a public interest litigation moved by a group of fishermen, stayed all construction activities. The fishermen contended that the project would affect their livelihood as well as the flora and fauna in the region.
The proposed 6,568-acre SEZ, to be developed on an investment of Rs.74 billion, was sanctioned in 2004.
