New Delhi, Nov 30 (IANS) A total of 1,900 commercial vehicles, including 500 Blueline buses, in the capital have failed to get certificates stating their compressed natural gas (CNG) engines are safe.
Stating this, Delhi Transport Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely said that a special drive would be started against all commercial vehicles to check their documents.

Nearly a dozen mobile teams from the transport department’s enforcement wing would be deputed during the drive.

The 1,900 vehicles against whom notices have been issued would have to produce CNG leakage proof certificate by Dec 18, failing which their permits might be cancelled.

“All DTC (Delhi Transport Corp) buses would be made CNG leakage proof. A special CNG leakage proof sticker would be pasted on the front glass of all DTC buses after proper checking,” Lovely said.

The statement follows two fires in low floor DTC buses in recent days, sparked apparently by leaking CNG cylinders.
