London, Aug 14 (IANS) An 18 feet python, carrying a record 87 eggs, has been captured in Florida.

The huge Myanmarese python, weighing about 70 kg, is the biggest ever found in Florida, and thought to be the largest caught in America, The Sun reported.

The 17-feet-7-inch python, which was put down, had feathers in its stomach that scientists plan to use to identify the types of wildlife it was eating.

Kenneth Krysko, an expert from the Florida Museum of Natural History, said: “These snakes are surviving a long time in the wild. There’s nothing stopping them and the native wildlife are in trouble.”

The snakes are not native to the US but there are thought to be thousands of the beasts in the national park after a breeding spree.
