July 30, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): The Hollywood icon Zsa Zsa now has to survive by means of a feeding tube! The news saddened the hearts of millions who had watched her in Moulin Rouge’ and ‘Touch of Evil’.

She had had to go in for a hip replacement procedure after she fell in her bedroom. Her fall resulted in a hip fracture and she had to go for the complicated surgery despite being 93 years of age. She had also been involved in a serious accident in 2002 which left her paralyzed partially.

Ms. Gabor has not been doing too well after her surgery and recovery is inordinately slow. However, the doctors say that slow progress is normal for someone of her age. The feeding tube is specifically meant to aid her swallowing process as the nutrients need to get to her body as quickly as possible.

The replacement was carried out at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center and was considered to be a success. She was initially expected to be released within a week after the surgery. However, reports on Saturday said that she was not talking and couldn’t eat or even swallow liquids. Hence the feeding tube. She also seemed to be completely oblivious of her surroundings.

Her husband Prince Frederic von Anhalt has reportedly told the ET that she is responding well so far. She also had to have a blood transfusion last week. Her husband had earlier requested her fans across the nation to pray for the star who had entertained an entire generation.
