Ziegfeld Follies’ Doris Eaton Travis has died

New York, May 12 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The legendary Ziegfeld Follies chorus girl – Doris Eaton Travis has died on Tuesday. She was a centenarian and her age was 106 years. The public relations firm Boneau/Byran-Brown confirmed her death, but they refused to disclose the location of her death and the cause of death.

Doris was a big supporter of the Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS fundraising organization. She supported the organization by appearing in their Easter Bonnet Competition numerous times. She was also famous for dressing up in elaborate and beautiful dresses for many Broadway theatrical productions. Even after bidding adieu to Ziegfeld Follies, she was active on the professional front and used to appear annually in Broadway in shows. She also played a small role in a Jim Carrey movie. She also played an important part in a memoir - “The Days We Danced: The Story of My Theatrical Family From Florenz Ziegfeld to Arthur Murray and Beyond.”

There was a reunion of the Ziegfeld Follies Girls with four others, at the opening ceremony of the New Amsterdam Theatre and at the opening ceremony, she shook a leg too. “I was the only one who could still dance,” she said.
