john-lennon On October 9 fans all over the world will celebrate the birthday of the man who changed the face of music forever. John Lennon, the founder of the Beatles and the musician who almost managed to bring about world peace, will be celebrating his 70th birthday. His legend, however, will not cross the age of 40 as he was shot dead three decades ago by a fan.

His wife Yoko Ono got together with his record label EMI for the ‘Gimme Some’ Truth’ campaign that is inspired by the ‘Imagine’ album of the legend. Yoko Ono also released new compilations which also includes the ‘John Lennon Signature Box’ on the special day. She said that it is a very important year as her husband would have turned 70. By re-mastering the 121 solo tracks by the former Beatles singer, Yoko Ono hopes that his message to the world will be viewed in a new light by a whole new generation. She also said that she cannot imagine a more appropriate title for the campaign other than ‘Gimme Some Truth’.

Also paying tribute to the legendary singer is the world’s favorite search engine, Google. The doodle for the day has been modified into a rough sketch that has John Lennon’s facial features in the part where the two ‘o’s of Google are located. There is also a small play button at the end of the sketch which plays a 32 second audio-visual clip from his hit ‘Imagine’ is played. There will also be weekend birthday celebration for John Lennon at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland from October 8 to October 10.
