On the anniversary of what would have been John Lennon’s birthday, his wife, Yoko Ono has delivered a birthday message from Iceland for her late husband. It may be recalled that Beatles’ John Lennon was killed in 1980 in front of his wife.

Yoko attended a ceremony at Reykjavik to light the Imagine Peace Tower. The message, which was also posted on YouTube, was full of praise for the courage of Lennon to rise to stardom despite the fact that his mother and father offered very little to him as a child.

Yoko said, “He had a very painful childhood”, referring to the seemingly neglect of Lennon. She however praised him in the message with the words “But later he managed to turn his pain around to give the world many beautiful songs and important messages which changed our heads and the way of our lives”.

She thanked all the Lennon lovers who observed the day with them saying “I know John was not expecting so much love to come from you but he would have been very happy to know it”.

The 70th anniversary of the birth of one of the Beatles John Lennon was marked across the globe.
