Wyclef Jean’s tax woes: He owes $2 million to the IRS

Wyclef Jean Los Angeles, Aug 9 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Even though rapper Wyclef Jean has been in the news for his humanitarian ways and for aiming to be the president of the earthquake ravaged Haiti, but now it seems that the tides have turned. He owes the IRS millions in back taxes and that too, to the tune of $2 million.

According to reports, the singer owes around $2.1 million in federal taxes. There are reports that IRS has filed three liens in the last four years against the well-known rapper. And even when the earthquake had ravaged his home country Haiti in January 2010, then he had received many donations from well wishers to his Wyclef Jean Foundation. And then also he was in the eye of a public storm as people questioned his integrity in using the funds from his foundation.

Wyclef Jean had bought his present abode located on Cameron Road in Saddle River for $1.85 million in 1998. And against this property three IRS liens have been filed. The first lien was for the amount of $792,269 and it was filed in July 2007. The second lien was for the sum of $724,332 and it was filed in May 2010. And the third lien was filed last month for the amount of $559,167.
