Wyclef Jean ruled out of Haiti presidential run

August 22, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): Haitian hip-hop star Wyclef Jean has been informed that he is not permitted to run in the nation’s presidential election. The singer who is now 40-years old lives in the US. He had formally registered to stand as the president earlier this month.
However, everything changed recently and he wouldn’t be allowed to run for the president. The reason behind this is because the Haitian constitution requires candidates who have lived in the nation for at least five years right before an election.
The Haitian electoral council, which ruled against Mr Jean’s application, has also been deliberating on the applications of other possible candidates. The country is yet to completely recover from the earthquake that devastated it in the month of January. An estimated 230,000 people were killed. This monster of an earthquake left more than one million homeless.
The Electoral council spokesman Richard Dumel announced that the officials had duly accepted a total of 19 candidacies and had rejected 15 others. Following this particular ruling, Mr. Wyclef Jean issued a particular statement saying he reverently disagreed with the council’s choice, as he wanted to lead this natural disaster struck nation; he however later accepted the council’s decision and urged his followers to act likewise.
