Wyclef Jean Returns to Haitian Presidential Race

August 23, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): If recent reports are to be believed, Wyclef Jeans might not be out from the Haitian Presidential contest. In some recent news it was heard that the country’s board of elections has rejected the candidature bid of the Grammy winner. But Wyclef said he is not going to give up hope and will continue with his campaign.

The Singer reported that he will challenge the Board of election’s decision because his presidential bid was declined even before the BCEN could come to a final ruling on the case. On Sunday morning Jean tweeted that his lawyers will be appealing the decision of the CEP. Jean said he had followed all the rule and regulations and the election board must honor the law of the land.

On the other hand CEP- Haiti’s Provisional Electoral Council did not specify why it ruled out the hip-hop star from the upcoming presidential race. Preliminary reports suggest that Jean Wyclef might have been rejected due to strict residency requirements. Although Jean is a Haitian by birth, the law clearly states that a person must live in the country for consecutive five years before he/she can run for the president.

Initially Jean accepted the decision but now he seems to be preparing for a prolonged legal battle that may turn nasty.
