Wyclef Jean Refutes Allegations Against His Foundation

wycefJan 17, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Rapper Wyclef Jean has brushed away allegations that claimed that the Grammy award- winning artist was profiting off his foundation, which has been associated with providing relief measures to the earthquake hit nation of Haiti.

Concerns were raised about the rapper’s Yele Haiti Foundation after the organization grossed more than $2 million to provide aid to the victims of the Caribbean island. Reportedly, evaluation of the accounting practices and tax returns of the foundation revealed that the charity organization was closely linked to the 37 year old musical artist’s businesses. However, Wyclef Jean has refuted all the allegations and has emphasized that he has never gained any personal profits from his charity foundation.

The Haitian rapper has released a statement in his personal website along with a video, in which he has expressed his commitment for Caribbean island nation where he was born. The much acclaimed singer also went on to say that the criticism that his foundation has received has left him immensely disgusted. At the same time, Wyclef Jean has added that he has himself contributed $1 million to the foundation in a bid to provide an impetus to the relief measures that are being taken in the disaster hit nation.

Hugh Locke, president of the organization has stated that the main aim of the foundation is to provide the basic requirements by early next week.

Meanwhile, the Yele Haiti Foundation had raised the whopping amount of money through a text message initiative in which the rapper had urged his fans to text “Yele” to 501501 which would result in $5 donation to his charity organization.
