Wyclef Jean London, Jan 19 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Rapper Wyclef Jean is under fire for the administrative errors made by his charity NGO ‘Yele’. He also admitted to the same, but he did clarify that he has never benefited in any way esp. financially from the wrongdoings of his charity. His NGO has managed to raise close to 1 million dollars to help the Haiti earthquake victims.

He tried his best to defend himself on his group’s blog. “I’m Haitian, this is where I come from,” said Jean in the video. In an accompanying statement, Jean declared that his “commitment to Haiti is a unique and everlasting bond,” adding that “it is impossible for me to even comprehend the recent attacks on my character and the integrity of my foundation, Yele Haiti.”

The NGO’s financial status came under scrutiny over its accounting practices leading to speculation that the rapper Jean was using the funds for his own personal profit, reports the Mirror.

The 7.0-magnitude Haitian earthquake happened around 4.53 p.m. local time on Tuesday, according to the United States Geological Survey, making it the strongest earthquake ever recorded within 200 kilometers. It struck about 10 miles southwest of the country’s capital, Port-au-Prince. The earthquake had a depth of only 10 kilometers (6.2 miles), so there is a greater chance of severe damage.
