Wyclef Jean likens quake-torn Haiti to ‘apocalypse’
January 30th, 2010 - 3:08 pm ICT by ANILondon, January 30 (ANI): Wyclef Jean has bared his heart after witnessing his native Haiti that was ravaged by a massive earthquake earlier this year.
The Grammy winning rapper described the plight of the victims and the horrors surrounding the Caribbean region since it was jolted by a 7.0 tremor that injured as many as 200,000 people and orphaned one million children.
“It looked like the apocalypse - there were bodies everywhere. It’s a sight that will stay with me for ever. It’s something you just can’t put into words,” the Sun quoted him as saying.
“I filmed everything with a video camera because I was convinced people would not believe what we told them,” he added.
The 37-year-old star, who jetted to his homeland after the tragedy, spent the first few days in the capital Port-au-Prince collecting corpses from the rubble and taking them to overwhelmed cemeteries.
He said: “That was the hardest thing - people were fighting over a space to lay their loved ones. It really tested my faith.” (ANI)
