Jan 19, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Rapper Wyclef Jean defended his charity organization Yele Haiti Foundation on Monday amidst reports that the Haitian-born musician had used the funds of the organization for his personal gain. In a news conference held at New York, the rapper reiterated his earlier claims that the charity organization founded by him to assist the relief operations in the earthquake hit island nation of Haiti was never involved in any kind of misappropriation of funds.
The claims of the musician being personally benefited from the foundation has been refuted. However, the musician has accepted that the charity organization has committed few administrative mistakes. The press conference witnessed Wyclef Jean getting extremely emotional as he talked about the earthquake that rocked the Caribbean island which led to widespread destruction in the impoverished nation.
Wyclef Jean led aid organization turned out to be one of the most significant foundations to have taken the initiative to channelize the relief efforts in the disaster hit nation. The foundation has already generated funds to the tune of $2million through a text message venture and also has a star studded telethon lined up for later this week in a bid to raise funds for the victims affected by the natural calamity.
The Yele Haiti Foundation came under fire after reports claimed that the financial records of the organization had close links with the musician’s businesses. This fueled rumors that the musical artist was profiting from his foundation. It is being presumed that as many as 200000 people might have lost their lives in the disaster which struck the island nation last week.
