Jan 23, (THAINDIAN NEWS) With the aim of raising funds for the victims of the earthquake ravaged island nation of Haiti, a telethon event “Hope For Haiti Now” was organized on Friday night. The spectacular event, which witnessed performances by some of the most prominent names in the entertainment industry, was hosted by actor George Clooney from Los Angeles as well as rapper Wyclef Jean from New York. They were also joined by CNN journalist Anderson Cooper who hosted the event directly from the disaster hit island of Haiti.

The much anticipated event commenced with a performance by Alicia Keys as images of the victims devastated by the natural calamity flashed on the background screen. This was followed by George Clooney’s appearance on stage who revealed details about the catastrophe that took place in the Caribbean island on January 12. At the same time, rapper Wyclef Jean joined the event live from New York and recounted his experiences in the disaster hit nation. CNN’s Anderson Cooper participated in the telethon live from the city of Port-au-Prince, which is reeling under the onslaught of devastation due to the natural calamity.

Anticipation had been running high regarding the event since it came to light that eminent personalities from Hollywood, television as well as the music world would be participating in the telethon. The mega event was simultaneously aired on a number of television networks to make sure that it could reach as many number of people as possible. The funds raised during the event would be used by charity organizations such as Yele Haiti Foundation, Red Cross, Oxfam America, among others for supporting the relief operations in Haiti.
