WWE Raw:Championship Tournament Miz vs Riley

July 19, 2011 (THAINDIAN NEWS) As WWE Monday Night Raw began last night live from Green Bay, Wisconsin, the WWE had no Champion. This was due to the fact that CM Punk had won against the Champ, John Cena at the ‘Money in the Bank’ pay per view event on Sunday Night. CM Punk’s contract with the WWE was up, and he had decided against renewing it after a dispute with Vince McMahon. His win meant he left the WWE with the Championship belt. It also meant that John Cena was fired, since McMahon had warned Cena that if he lost the belt to Punk, then he was gone.

McMahon opened the show with no theme music, taking the mic and standing in the ring with Johnny “Ace” Laurinaitis, the Senior Vice President of Talent Relations at the WWE. McMahon had two points to make…Punk turned his back on all of the WWE, and Cena was going to face “serious consequences.” He went on to announce that in order to decide the new WWE Champion, there would be a Eight Man Single Elimination Tournament on last night’s Raw. The tournament would feature Dolph Ziggler, Rey Mysterio, Jack Swagger, R-Truth, Kofi Kingston, Alberto Del Rio, Alex Riley, and The Miz.

The first match of the night was between Alex Riley and his former mentor and partner, The Miz. Miz was hobbling along in his knee, which was injured in the pay per view event. Of course Riley immediately attacked the knee, and the match was on. After a Texas Cloverleaf from Riley, The Miz managed to pull off a Skull Crushing Finale, and won the match.
