Apr 12 (THAINDIAN NEWS) There was much speculation as to what the “shocking statement” was which Edge was to give on the WWE Monday Night Show” last night. Jerry Lawler had heard rumors that the Rated R Superstar was going to retire from the WWE. But of course, everyone hoped this was not true.

Edge began his speech to say that although many think that the WWE does not hurt, anyone who had ever been backstage and strapped on a pair of boots knows that this is not true. Edge reminded everyone of the broken neck which he suffered eight years ago, and told the fans that he had known all along that he was wrestling on borrowed time.

Edge said that he had been having pains, and his arms and hands were going numb, and although a doctor had cleared him to wrestle, the WWE insisted that he have more tests done…and he was really glad that he did. If he had not, he would have soon ended up in a wheelchair. The news is bad. Edge has to retire.

Edge spoke of how his best friend for the last twenty-seven years, Christian had been there to support him through the whole ordeal. He shared how much he loved the WWE and how he had been watching it for years before he was ever a WWE star. Edge has went on from his dream as a young man who watched Hulk Hogan wrestle to win more Championships than anyone in the WWE history. He has been wrestling for nineteen years, fourteen of those with the WWE. Edge will turn in the World Heavyweight Championship belt, which he now holds, this Friday night on Smackdown.

Edge shared with an audience who was on their feet with waves of applause. He told them how much he would miss them, and told them that if they asked him if he would do all this again, the long flights, the surgeries, metal rods in his teeth, all of it….he answered, “In a heart beat, so thank you, thank you very much.” With tears in his eyes, Edge looked around in amazement as the entire audience told him goodbye with a standing ovation. He walked backstage, and paused, giving a bittersweet smile as his theme song played just one last time.
