globeBeverly Hills, Jan 18, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The 2010 Golden Globe Awards took place on Jan 17, Sunday, at the Beverly Hills in California. The Golden Globe Awards marks the beginning of the award season of the current year. Like in every other year, the winners in the vast number of categories were all not expected; while some of the names were presumed, quite a few were pretty unexpected, and needless to say, disappointing for many. What did not come as a surprise at all was the success of “Avatar,” which continued from the box office to the award ceremony.

As had been assumed, Avatar won the award in the category of the Best Feature (Drama). Added to that, the director, James Cameron, also took home the prize for the Best Director. The award for the Best Feature (Comedy) went to “The Hangover,” starring Bradley Cooper among others. Sandra Bullock won in the category of the Best Actress (Drama) for her role in the film “The Blind Side.” The prize for the Best Actor (Drama) was given away to Jeff Bridges, for his outstanding performance in “Crazy Heart.”

As was expected, Robert Downey Jr. as “Sherlock Holmes” managed to take away the award for the Best Actor in a Comedy or Musical. On the other hand, the Best Actress award for a Comedy or Musical went to Meryl Streep for “Julie and Julia.” The awards for the Best Supporting Actor and Actress went to Christoph Waltz and Mo’Nique, for “Inglourious Basterds” and “Precious” respectively. “The White Ribbon,” from Germany, was declared the Best Foreign Language film. “Up” won in the categories for the Best Animated Film and the Best Score, by Michael Giacchino.
