Winehouse’s husband arrested over trial fixing plotNovember 14th, 2007 - 10:21 am ICT by admin
Blake Fielder-Civil, along with pal Michael Brown, had been accused of assaulting a barman, James King, causing Grievous Bodily Harm (GBH) with intent recently.
However, an investigation by British newspaper the Mirror found that the two men were hoping to have their trial fixed by not only paying King 200,000 pounds to withdraw his police statement, but also by flying him out of the country before the hearing in the hope that the case against them would eventually collapse.
The case was due to be heard in court on Monday.
The alleged conspiracy emerged after two men named Ant and Jay claimed that they had CCTV footage of the alleged attack on King by Fielder-Civil and Brown.
Ant alleged that he and Jay were to be paid for organising a deal between King and his claimed attackers and for “babysitting” King overseas until the trial was dropped.
There is no evidence to suggest that Winehouse was involved in the alleged plot. But police, who raided her home in an attempt to gather evidence of the claimed plot, still wish to see if she could provide any helping the case.
A Met spokesman said: “A thorough investigation is being carried out into claims of conspiracy to pervert justice in connection with a trial.
“Three men have been arrested and are being questioned. We’re expecting to make further arrests.” (ANI)
